A directive is a structured comment that is interpreted by the
  compiler.  All HP COBOL directives begin with the charaters "*DC",
  where the asterisk (*) signals the beginning of the structured
  comment to the compiler.  HP COBOL provides directives for
  ALIGNMENT only.
